Acceptance
By creating an account or using FireHose ("the service"), you agree to these Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. These terms form a binding contract between you and FireHose Editorial Co. ("FireHose," "we," "us").
Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old and able to enter into a binding contract under the law of your jurisdiction. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your credentials secure.
Subscription
FireHose offers a free Reader plan and paid Operator and Newsroom plans. Paid plans bill monthly or annually in advance via Stripe. Prices are shown on the pricing page; current paid pricing is Operator at $12/month and Newsroom at a per-seat rate listed on that page. Prices are in USD; applicable tax is added at checkout.
Auto-renewal & cancellation
Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price for that plan. You may cancel any time from Settings → Billing or by emailing editor@firehosesignal.com; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period and you retain access until then. We will notify existing subscribers of any price change at least 30 days in advance and you may cancel before it takes effect.
Refunds
Fees are non-refundable except where required by law or where the service was materially unavailable for an extended period attributable to us. EU and UK consumers may exercise statutory withdrawal rights where applicable. If something broke and you did not get what you paid for, write us and we will refund the affected period.
Acceptable use
You will not: (a) share or resell your account (the Newsroom plan exists for teams); (b) scrape, crawl, or republish source content fetched through the API; (c) use automated tools to abuse, overload, or probe the service; (d) reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the reranker weights or training data; (e) use the service to build a competing product; (f) upload, store, or transmit content that infringes intellectual property rights, is unlawful, or violates a third party's privacy; (g) bypass per-account source or rate limits. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
User content
You retain ownership of the briefs, notes, highlights, and collections you create in FireHose. You grant FireHose a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, transmit, and display that content solely to operate and improve the service for you (for example, to render it in the reader, deliver it in the dispatch, and rank items against it). This license ends when you delete the content or your account, subject to the backup-aging window described in the Privacy Policy.
Intellectual property
FireHose retains all rights in the software, the reranker model, the editorial system, and the FireHose name, logo, and marks. Source content remains the property of its respective publishers and is displayed under permission terms or fair-use excerpting. Nothing in these terms grants you a license to FireHose marks or code beyond use of the service as intended.
Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that ranking output will meet any particular standard. FireHose is a reading tool, not professional advice.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, FireHose is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the service is capped at the fees you paid us in the 12 months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (including gross negligence, fraud, or statutory consumer rights).
Termination
You may terminate at any time by deleting your account. We may suspend or terminate your account for material breach of these terms, for non-payment, or where required by law, with notice where practical. On termination, your right to use the service ends and your data is handled per the Privacy Policy retention schedule. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (IP, disclaimers, limitation of liability, dispute resolution) survive.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. [Flagged for legal: confirm New York vs. Delaware before public launch.] EU, UK, and other consumers retain mandatory statutory rights under their local law regardless of this clause.
Dispute resolution
Talk to us first: editor@firehosesignal.com reaches a human and resolves most issues. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally within 60 days, it will be settled by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, seated in New York, NY. You and FireHose waive any right to a jury trial or to participate in a class action. You may bring an individual claim in small-claims court if it qualifies. EU and UK consumers retain the right to bring proceedings in their local courts.
Changes to these terms
We will notify subscribers of material changes to these terms by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after the effective date constitutes acceptance. The "Effective" date below is updated whenever these terms change.
